Late in 2006 the club lost contact with the member who managed the hosting of our co.uk web site and, despite much effort, has not been able to contact him since. Unfortunately he paid to renew the domain name registration in February 2007 which gives him total control of the co.uk web site for some time to come and he has not responded to messages from the club, the hosting company or the domain name registrar. We had no other choice but to create another web site.
There is no difference between buying a Moss car and driving it on the road and buying any other second hand car. It must be registered, have a V5 log book which says it is a Moss car and it would be helpful if there were MoT certificates which show it to be a Moss car. There may be difficulties with the DVLA if the car is not already registered and on the road or if the log book describes it as being a Ford, a Triumph or some other manufacturer when it clearly is a Moss. If you are buying a car to build you are strongly advised to join the Moss Owners Club, use the expertise which club members can provide and join in the social life of being a Moss owner.
Please send a message to sales@mossownersclub.org.uk giving your name and contact number and we will get back to you.
The Single Vehicle Approval test is an enhanced MoT carried out by VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) which is a UK government department linked with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency). The DVLA control registration of cars in UK including testing. If your car is being registered for the first time it will probably need to pass an SVA test before it can go on to the road. The details of this test are contained in the VOSA handbook. If your car is SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) or you hope to reactivate an old registration you will need to convince the DVLA your car matches the description on its V5 registration document eg. it says "Moss Malvern" or "Moss Monaco" and not "Triumph Herald" or whatever donor car was used in the build. The regulations are more detailed than can be described here but, if you are to avoid a SVA test, you will have to show the chassis is unmodified and original or the body monocoque is unmodified and original plus you need at least two original components from the donor. Most new cars will need to pass a SVA test.
We are just waiting for you to send us a picture of your Moss
Don't be, we have members who do not own a Moss car but still regularly attend events. The only downside is that the entrance fee to many events is higher when you arrive in a tin box.
Most Moss cars are based on either Ford or Triumph. The Triumph engines are usually the 1296, 1500 or 2000 units from Heralds, Spitfires or Vitesses. There is a greater range of Ford donor cars available with engines ranging from 1200cc to 2000cc and there are a few cars using other engines including one in Australia using a Mitsubishi Galant.
